Lohagad Fort, translating to Iron Fort in Marathi, stands proudly near the hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala, approximately 52 km northwest of Pune. Rising to an elevation of 1,033 meters (3,389 feet) above sea level, Lohagad Fort is connected to its neighbor, Visapur Fort, on the eastern side by a small range. This range separates the basins of the Indrayani River and the Pavana River. Positioned south of the mountain, Lohagad Pune overlooks Pawna Lake. Extending northwest is a fortified spur known as Vinchu Kata, or Scorpion's Tail, due to its distinctive shape. The fort boasts four large gates that remain in good condition and largely intact. Recognized as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India, Lohagad Fort offers excellent trekking opportunities for beginners, making it a popular destination near Mumbai and Pune, especially favored by hikers exploring the scenic locales around Lonavala.
