Brahmatal, a place where Lord Brahma meditated is one of the most underrated winter treks of India. The trek runs parallel to the renowned Roopkund Trek. Oak and Rhododendron forest will make your trek more scenic. You will be trekking to a max altitude of 12,250ft, the base camp for Brahmatal trek is Lohajung. Throughout the trek Mt. Trishul (7120m) and Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6309m) will keep an eye on you. One can expect heavy snowfall in winters so it’s a perfect winter trek.
If you are fit and you haven’t done any trek till now, this trek will for sure teach you much more about trekking in hills. If you like landscape photography, it’s a must go for you.
Day 01: Reach Lohajung it will take around 8-9 hours from Kathgodam. The drive will be around 220 kms.
Day 02: Lohajung to Bekaltal (5 hours trek).
Day 03: Bekaltal to Brahmatal(5-6 hours trek).
Day 04: Brahmatal to Brahmatal top and back to Brahmatal.
Day 05: Brahmatal to Lohajung.
Day 06: Drive back to Kathgodam from Lohajung (8-9 hours drive)
By Air: Pantnagar is the nearest airport to Lohajung. From Airport you can book a cab for Lohajung.
By Rail: The Kathgodam railway station is the nearest railway station to Lohajung and is well connected with Delhi. You can book a taxi from Kathgodam Railway station to Lohajung.
By Road: Kathgodam is well connected to all major cities. Lohajung which is about 220 kms from Kathgodam will take around 7-8 hours. You can book a cab or take public transport to reach Lohajung, it is well connected from Kathgodam.
The journey starts from Kathgodam and takes around 8-9hours to reach Lohajung which is the base camp for Brahmatal trek.
Lohajung is located at Chamoli district in Uttarakhand.
Mighty Nanda Ghunti peak welcomes you at Lohajung, enjoy your evening looking at the last rays of the sun disappearing from the peak.
Lohajung is also the basecamp for the renowned Roopkund trek.
Overnight stay at a home stay in Lohajung.
Wakeup early morning and freshen up, have a healthy breakfast and start your trek towards Bekaltal.
Today you will get first glimpse of Mt. Trishul.
Bekaltal is a lake surrounded by thick forest.
The trek is around 6 kms and will take around 5 hours to complete the trek.
Enjoy your evening soaking in the positive vibes of hills.
Night stay at the campsite.
Wakeup early morning freshen up have a healthy breakfast and start your trek towards Brahmatal.
You will find yourself between the dense Oak and Rhododendron forests.
It’s a 7kms trek, it will take around 5-6hours to reach Brahmatal.
In winter’s Brahmatal lake is completely frozen.
Night stay at the campsite.
Wakeup early morning and freshen up, have a healthy breakfast and start your trek towards Brahmatal top.
Finally, the day comes when you will reach the highest altitude of the trek 12250ft.
The trek is around 7kms and will take around 7 hours.
You will get great views from the top of the majestic Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.
Back to Brahmatal campsite.
Wakeup early morning freshen up have a healthy breakfast and start your trek towards Lohajung.
Enjoy your descent by remembering those moments you spend at the Brahmatal top.
The descent is around 9kms and will take around 5 hours.
Overnight stay at a homestay in Lohajung.
Wakeup early morning and freshen up, have a healthy breakfast and drive back to Kathgodam.
